About Saliva Testing

Why use saliva instead of blood?

Saliva collection is non-invasive, painless, quick, and can be done anywhere at any time. It is particularly useful in field settings where blood collection is difficult, inadvisable, or would cause unnecessary stress to the subject (which itself would affect hormone levels).

How much saliva is needed?

The SOMA OFC II collects a precise volume of saliva with a single swab. The process takes under two minutes and the sample is immediately stabilised in the buffer solution.

How long is a sample stable?

Once the swab is placed in the OFC II buffer, samples are stable at room temperature for months, giving you full flexibility in testing timing.

About the Products

Do I need the Cube Reader to use the LFDs?

The LFDs can be read visually (positive/negative), but for quantitative values you will need the Cube LFD Reader or the SOMA LFD Reader. Quantitative data is essential for monitoring trends over time.

How many samples can I test at once?

With the Cube LFD Reader you can test 30 samples in under 25 minutes, making it ideal for squad testing in team sports.

Are the tests validated?

Yes. SOMA products have been independently validated against laboratory standard assays. See our Validation Papers for details.
